How The Eye Works
The healthy eye works very much like a camera.

The Retina
The retina is the nerve layer that lines the inside back wall of the eye.

The Vitreous
Many serious eye conditions are caused by problems with the vitreous.

Flashes and Floaters
These are most commonly experienced when the vitreous gel separates from the retina.

Retinal Tears
When the vitreous pulls away from the retina, it is called a posterior vitreous detachment.

Retinal Detachment
Most retinal detachments occur following a retinal tear.

Macular Degeneration
Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is a disease that causes damage or breakdown of the macula.

Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in patients 20 to 74 years of age.

Macular Hole
A Macular Hole is an abnormal opening in the retina in the center of the macula.

Central Serious Retinopathy
CSR is a condition in which a small pool of fluid collects under the central retina.

Epiretinal Membrane
This condition is caused by an abnormal membrane that grows over the macular surface.

Cystoid Macular Edema
CME usually occurs due to ocular inflammation; this produces chemicals that cause the retinal vessels to leak.

Central Retinal Vein Occlusion
CRVO occurs when the main retinal vein is blocked. The retina becomes filled with blood and swollen.

Branch Retinal Vein Occlusion
Similar to a central retinal vein occlusion, BRVO only affects a segment of the retina.

Ocular Inflammation

Uveitis is inflammation of the internal structures of the eye.

Optic Nerve Disease

Damage to the Optic Nerve causes rapid vision loss.

Intravitreal Drug Therapy

Delivery of medications to the retina and vitreous cavity.

Retinopathy of Prematurity

A condition affecting the retina of premature infants.
